Really, just when I was getting all set to consider color, cut, and swing of the lads and ladies of tennis, Hillary Clinton had to hit me with a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuit line, that begs – nay screams – for elucidation, and pit-chers. What is the history of the pantsuit, anyway. Wikipedia claims that it is also known as a trouser suit, but not by anyone I’ve ever met or read. Coco Chanel introduced it in the 20’s, and here we see Marlene Dietrich in a Chanel from 1933.

Katherine Hepburn loved them, as did a lot of women entering the workforce during the World Wars. And Yves St. Laurent gets credit for doing so much good for the style, but I’d take a lighter weight, do anything and never feel constricted, version by Andre Courreges.
But I’m just liking his take on my uniform: a teeny little dress with superhero pants.
A post from Gail Collins of the NYTimes on Hillary’s pantsuit methodology is worth a visit, and here’s a nod to her #8 on a Letterman Top Ten, “Thanks to the internet I can order new pantsuits 24/7.” Which I guess somehow gets us to here:
I’d go with all the colors, in a silk linen jacket and tight lycra, well, trousers. Hillary goes QVC image courtesy of BBC News.
